News from the Principal

Kia Ora,

It has been a hectic, chaotic and crazy week with all that is going on around the world and now in our own country!

Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced the need for Social Distancing, I would like to propose we call this Physical Distancing  in times like this we don’t want to isolate ourselves socially as social interactions and connections are important to people’s well being at this time. Until the end of this term, we will not be having whole school assemblies until further notice.

We are also going to postpone our Yr 1-3 swimming sports until Term 4. Our next school assembly, which was our Taranaki assembly,  would have taken place in Week 9 but will now be postponed until further notice.

We have also had to postpone our annual Taste of Ponsonby event, we are hoping to run this in Term 3. This is due to advice we are receiving from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health around large gatherings.

Also a gentle reminder to reinforce at home around hygiene

  • regularly washing hands (for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap and dry thoroughly)
  • covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze
  • staying home if you are sick
  • avoiding close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms
  • if you feel unwell, you should avoid public gatherings and events
  • cleaning surfaces regularly (when infection is suspected).

We are also advising against all unnecessary travel, especially in the upcoming school holidays. People who leave the country will need to self isolate upon their return. These are uncertain times and that calls for some tough decisions. Please consider your travel plans and inform us if you are still heading away.

But now on a more  positive note, the Year 4-6 swimming sports was such a fantastic day! All our children were involved and every child had a go! All our children were resilient, encouraging and I was truly proud of them all. Congratulations to all students who got a placing but also a big congratulations to all our students who were involved.  A big thank you to Mr Connor and all our wonderful teachers who did such a great job on the day.

Last week we had our school Hui with our Māori and Pasifika families, it was such a lovely evening where our Pasifika and Māori parents got the opportunity to share their ideas around what really matters for our Pasifika and Māori students. A special thanks to Morgan Johnstone who facilitated the evening and  big thank you to all those parents for attending.

A reminder we have our Teacher only day this Friday, so parents please do not send your child to school.

Enjoy the rest of the week and enjoy the weekend!

Kind regards

Ngā mihi

Mr Sanjay Rama,

Tumuaki, Principal
